Building now: the Dhahir File Organizer project

Building now · · 1 min read

I'm building a small tool I call Dhahir File Organizer. The idea is simple: my downloads folder turns into a mess fast — files with odd names, photos, invoices, and installers all dumped in one place. I wanted a tool that would organize that folder without me.

The tool works by reading each file, figuring out its type, moving it to a matching folder, and renaming it with something clearer that carries the date and file type. Simple to describe, but it taught me a lot about working with files and paths, and about thinking through every case that could happen: a file with no extension, a duplicate name, or a folder I don't have permission to write to.

What I'm learning most right now is that a tool that looks small still needs a lot of thought to work reliably, not just to work once. I'm still building it piece by piece, testing it on my own real files before it reaches anyone else.
